FOX23 Investigates: Owasso Animal Shelter shares progress after investigation

OWASSO, Okla. — Changes are underway at the Owasso Animal Shelter following months of community concern and a third-party investigation into its operations, city officials said.

The investigation began last summer after residents packed a City Council meeting, calling for greater transparency, lower euthanasia rates and stronger partnerships with animal rescue groups.

Owasso Deputy Police Chief Shaun Jones said the past several months have involved difficult but productive conversations aimed at improving shelter operations.

“We faced a lot of challenges, so I think the hard part’s over,” Jones said. “Now we just need to keep doing what we’re doing. I’m very proud of our animal control officers, our rescue partners and what we’ve been able to accomplish together.”

The third-party investigation found no illegal activity at the shelter, Jones said, but concluded that community expectations went beyond minimum legal requirements…
