A unique and unusual museum of firearms and related items
Claremore, Oklahoma is home to a unique and unusual museum. The museum has an interesting history; the contents are primarily made up of one man’s personal collection: James Mason Davis. The collection has over 20,000 firearms and related items. His gathering of guns are from around the world. This accumulation is probably the largest private firearm collection in the world.
Mr. Davis began collecting at age seven when his father bought him his first gun for $1.50. The gun collection has everything from a Kentucky rifle, Gatling guns, elephant guns, and whaling guns to a collection of guns owned by famous people such as Jesse James, Belle Starr, Bonnie Parker, Tom Mix, Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, and even Napoleon.
Besides firearms, he has a collection of 1,200 German beer steins, cattle brands, World War I political posters, Native American artifacts, animal horns, as well as animal trophy heads…
