Tulsa Police Outline Mental Health Crisis Response Protocols

TULSA, OKLA (KTUL) — A community member is urging the Tulsa Police Department to strengthen its mental health crisis response policies following a February 8 officer-involved shooting.

According to Tulsa Police, officers responded around 4:30 p.m. to a “man with a gun” call near 51st Street and Sheridan Road. A family member told 911 the man had a loaded firearm in his pocket and made statements suggesting he intended to do something he “can’t come back from.”

Police say an officer located the man walking near Burger Street. During the encounter, the man allegedly raised a revolver and pointed it at an officer. The officer fired a patrol rifle, striking him. Additional officers provided first aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene…
