Tulsa Police: Tickets not enough to stop reckless speeders

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Police Department is asking the City Council to make it easier for officers to impound vehicles connected to reckless speeding, whether or not officers manage to stop the vehicle.

The proposed ordinance would allow officers to have a vehicle towed later.

TPD Major Matt McCord told councilors, “We can suspend their license. We can cite them infinitely, and they’ll pay the citations and keep on driving recklessly. What we’ve seen across the country is ordinances in which we impound their cars for X number of days. This slows them down because they literally don’t have the toy to play with anymore.”…
