Data shows lawsuit settlements for City of Tulsa increasing

TULSA, Okla. – The City of Tulsa has agreed to settle a lawsuit with a $4.5 million payment, adding to a growing list of large payouts, mostly tied to criminal justice cases involving the Tulsa Police Department.

The latest payout is for a wrongful conviction in a murder case.

The City Council authorized the payment on Wednesday, a required step to verify that the funds are available in the City of Tulsa’s “sinking fund,” an account where property tax collections are deposited and funds are withdrawn to pay court judgments and workers’ compensation claims…
