PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Summer heat is just around the corner as the greater Portland-Vancouver area sees more sun and warmer temperatures by Wednesday afternoon.
Mostly cloudy skies will quickly clear to sunnier and warmer conditions on Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will remain slightly cooler than the average of 73, with temperatures climbing into the mid and upper 60s.
Heat will continue to build across western Oregon and southwest Washington later this week. Records will likely be broken as the Portland National Weather Service puts the metro area under an Extreme Heat Watch on Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures could warm as high as 100 degrees this weekend and early next week. Little relief from the heat is likely during the overnight and early morning hours this weekend. That will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses.
Now is the time to prepare for the high heat. Make a plan to stay hydrated, check on neighbors, and find means of staying cool. Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and taking frequent breaks inside or in the shade will help to reduce the threat of heat-related illnesses.
Temperatures will remain hot and near or above 90 degrees for three to four days. Summer-like heat will start Saturday and take the greater Portland-Vancouver area into early next week. Some long-range forecast models are trending more seasonal by the middle and end of the week…
