Portland’s extended weekend heat wave puts cooling strategies to the test. 100 possible Monday

Clear skies over the metro area Friday are courtesy of a high pressure system building over the eastern Pacific Ocean, signaling a big heat up starting Friday and extending into early next week.

The National Weather Service says all models are in strong agreement that this high pressure will shift closer into the Pacific Northwest by Saturday and then over the coast Sunday and Monday bringing hot air into the region. How hot? Portland will see highs soar into the 90s Saturday and Sunday and likely close to 100 on Monday.

Escaping to the coast won’t offer much relief. The weather service says the beaches will be much warmer than normal with high temps peaking in the 70s Saturday and near 80 degrees on Sunday…
