Boeing workers to rally with union president in Portland Thursday

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Hundreds of Boeing workers are set to rally in Portland Thursday alongside IAM International president Brian Bryant.

This comes amid 33,000 Boeing machinists continuing to strike across the Pacific Northwest, calling for a fair contract.

At 11 a.m., workers are rallying outside Portland’s Boeing Facility where Bryant is set to speak among other union and state officials.

According to the union, their contract, which was put into place in 2008 and then extended in 2011 and 2014, remained mostly unchanged. This resulted in stagnant wages and a contract that didn’t meet employees’ needs.

The biggest issues are not only better wages, but achieving respect for the workers, Bryant said.

“Boeing must deliver a contract that reflects the hard work and sacrifices that workers have made over the past decade,” said Bryant. “The IAM and our 600,000 members have the backs of every single striking Boeing worker in this nation.”
