Dangerous river levels expected with warm weekend ahead

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — Boaters setting sail during the warm weekend weather should prepare for dangerously low river levels around the Portland, Vancouver area.

The Columbia and Willamette rivers around the Portland, Vancouver area are running low. Portland’s National Weather Service is predicting river levels to sit “unusually low – between -0.5 and 0.5 feet during low tide the next few days.”

Extreme caution should be used during the late morning hours in shallow areas. The low tides expected Saturday through Monday during the late morning hours is when river levels will fall to their lowest levels along the Columbia and Willamette rivers.

Not only is the tide to blame for these unusual river levels, but the lack of melting mountain snow and valley rains has helped rivers run low. Autumn rains are expected to ramp up by the middle of next week .
