More than 100 top leaders throughout Oregon, in the fields of civics, business and government, are calling for calm in regards to the Tuesday, Nov. 5, election.
The call for calm comes in the wake of anti-election protests eight years ago, as well as the Black Lives Matter protests and often-unrelated riots.
“Portland’s ongoing recovery is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together constructively, said Andrew Hoan, president of the Portland Metro Chamber. “But this progress is still fragile. The damage from past episodes of vandalism and violence didn’t just affect individual businesses — it impacted our entire city’s reputation and recovery. This unprecedented coalition of leaders has come together because we understand how crucial it is to protect this momentum.”
The coalition includes elected lawmakers, leaders of civic organizations, organized labor, other chambers of commerce, and front-office leader of the Trail Blazers, Thorns and Timbers, among others.
