Man sentenced for assaulting grandmother on TriMet bus

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who attacked an elderly woman on a TriMet bus back in 2021 was sentenced to two years in prison, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced.

A jury found Randy Sturdevant, 43, guilty of felony assault and disturbance of public transportation in October.

On August 20, 2021, Sturdevant attacked a female passenger who was sitting with her granddaughter and attempted to reach for the child during the dispute. As the assault escalated, the woman protected her granddaughter as best she could, officials said.

After TriMet personnel shared Sturdevant’s photo from the incident, authorities were able to identify him, and a few days later he was arrested at a neighboring hospital.
