Tigard domestic disturbance results in arrest of convicted felon who had 16 guns

Tigard police recovered several stolen guns from the home of a convicted felon while officers were responding to a domestic violence call early Tuesday morning, Nov. 12 in the 7000 block of Southwest Taylors Ferry Road.

“Responding officers learned a man pointed a gun at a woman and threatened to shoot her, hit her in the face and chased her with a hatchet before officers arrived and she safely made it outside,” stated a news release from the Tigard Police Department.

After identifying the suspect as Jason Alan Smith, 43, they discovered he was a convicted felon who is not legally allowed to have guns.

The release continued: “A large gun safe was found at home, and a judge authorized a search warrant for officers to open the safe. Inside, they found 16 guns, including handguns, rifles and shotguns, including one that appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun.”

Police reported that many of the guns did not have serial numbers. In addition, at least five of them were confirmed as having been stolen during a Clackamas County burglary earlier this year, with another two believed to be tied to that same burglary. That detail has yet to be confirmed.
