FRIDAY, FEB. 28
• 5:22 p.m. — Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 18 about 7 miles east of Otis in Lincoln County that took the life of Mark Joseph Sutherland, 64, of Portland. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Sutherland was driving west in a Dodge Ram 1500, entered the eastbound lane, sideswiped a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 27-year-old Poplarville, Mississippi, man and then hit head-on a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 34-year-old Willamina man. Sutherland was declared deceased at the scene. The Chevrolet’s driver was transported via helicopter to an emergency medical center with serious injuries.
