Recovery of vehicle linked to 1958 Portland family disappearance

A recent vehicle recovery might unlock the long-standing mystery of the Martin family’s disappearance from Portland in 1958.

Last Friday, a significant piece of history was pulled from the depths of the Columbia River near Cascade Locks, Oregon when the chassis and engine of a car, believed to be connected to the Martin family who vanished nearly 70 years ago, were retrieved, as local NBC affiliate KGW reports.

This discovery has rekindled hopes of solving one of Portland’s oldest cold cases.

The operation was set into motion after an independent diver, Archer Mayo, found the vehicle submerged and hidden under debris last fall. The location of the vehicle, approximately 50 feet underwater in a debris-covered pit, posed significant challenges for the recovery team…
