Woman who starved 7-year-old to the point of hospitalization gets 23-month prison sentence

PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A woman who was convicted of withholding food and medical attention from a 7-year-old to the point of hospitalization was sentenced to less than two years in jail, authorities said.

Jamie Strahm will serve 23 months in jail in total for the two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment. She is also ordered to not contact the victim and to not physically discipline any child.

The 7-year-old child weighed less than 40 pounds after being admitted to the hospital in 2019, following years of being under the care of Strahm, who began dating the victim’s father in 2014.

In 2015, when the child was 4 years old, they suffered “an unexplained brain injury while in Ms. Strahm’s care,” the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said…
