The city of St. Helens is moving forward in its search for a new chief of police and has outlined the process it will use to evaluate applicants while facing litigation from one of the candidates.
Three people applied to lead the St. Helens Police Department after the position was opened to internal candidates: Interim Chief Joe Hogue and Sgts. Jose Castilleja and Matthew Smith.
The position was left vacant in January after the resignation of former chief Brian Greenway shortly before the city published a lengthy report detailing alleged misconduct at the helm of the department.
