Vancouver woman arrested for attempted murder of her parents over religious dispute

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KATU) — A family dispute turned violent on Sunday when a woman allegedly stabbed her father and attempted to cut her mother’s throat at their home in the Parkrose neighborhood, according to police reports.

On April 20, officers responded to the scene around 5:40 p.m. and found the 19-year-old woman, McKenzy Hafer, outside the home. She was taken into custody without incident and placed in a patrol vehicle.

According to a police report, McKenzy, her father Benjamin Hafer, her mother Erin Hetzler, and her brother Dakota Hafer all lived together in the residence. The altercation began when Benjamin wished McKenzy “Happy Resurrection Day,” to which she replied that she did not believe in God. This sparked an argument, and the two eventually separated into different rooms…
