Lake Oswego firefighters rescue 12 baby ducks from storm drain

The Lake Oswego Fire Department rescued 12 ducks who fell into a stormwater drain while following their mom in the Westlake neighborhood.

Driver engineer Paul Corwin, Lieutenant Toby Hays and firefighter Candace Grimes responded to the scene Monday, April 28, near Morningview Circle and McNary Parkway after receiving a call from neighbors.

In a similar incident where ducks fell into a drain about two years ago, the department didn’t have equipment to get them out initially but a resident donated a pool cleaner with a net that solved this issue. The responders used the pool cleaner again to scoop up the 12 ducks and then placed them in a nearby pond, with the mom joining them in the water. The drain was about 5 feet deep with some water in it and Grimes said the ducks were fine following the rescue…
