OREGON CITY Ore. (KPTV) – For the first time in nearly 100 years, Clackamas County has a brand-new courthouse. State and county leaders gathered outside the new building, located at 1000 Courthouse Road, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday.
The old courthouse, located along the Willamette River in downtown Oregon City, was built in 1936 and was designed to serve a community of 50,000 people. Since then, the population of Clackamas County has reached more than 425,000, severely outgrowing the old historic building.
“That building just could not accommodate that,” said former Clackamas County Chair Jim Bernard. “It’s a building that you don’t want to be in unless you have to maybe to get a marriage license or something.”…
