Portland teen shot in Cathedral Park recovering, mother heads to Salem to tell his story

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Less than two months after surviving a gunshot wound to the head, 16-year-old Elliott Beck is conscious, speaking, and making stunning progress in his recovery.

“He is getting some use from his left side, which was impacted by the gunshot wound on the right side of his head,” said his mother, Jennifer Beck, during an interview on Monday, adding that it may be some time before the family will know if he will make a full recovery.

“With traumatic brain injury, they said it can take up to five years to see the results, and because he has a pretty neuroplastic brain as an adolescent, it can take even longer than that,” she said…
