Layoffs hit PeaceHealth hospitals in Oregon, union raises concerns

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Some PeaceHealth employees are without a job after the healthcare provider announced a round of layoffs impacting two major Pacific Northwest hospitals, including PeaceHealth Sacred Heart RiverBend in Springfield and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington.

In an internal email sent to staff on Thursday, PeaceHealth leadership cited rising operational costs and a need to “improve core operating performance” as the primary reasons for the cuts. Approximately 1% of the organization’s workforce was affected. According to PeaceHealth, impacted employees were notified the same day, and no additional layoffs are currently planned.

The healthcare provider says it is offering transitional support and encouraging affected caregivers to apply for other open positions within the organization. A hiring freeze is also being implemented through 2025, with the exception of clinical and essential operational roles.
