PORTLAND, Ore. — More shelters. Fewer tents and R-Vs. That’s the approach to ending homelessness, that Portland’s mayor is following. He says three shelters are already open and three more will join them in the next several weeks. Mayor Keith Wilson told the East Portland Chamber’s group of small business owners that under his administration things are getting better.
“We improved and increased street sweeping, graffiti abatement, RV mitigation. Those are basic things that we must do and do well, even though we have a budget shortfall.”
He says he’s had tough fights to end practices, he believes are not working, like keeping people in RVs or tents…
