A vegan fast-food restaurant inspired by In-N-Out just opened in North Portland

Portland is a city known for being home to many people living a vegan lifestyle. Now there’s a new restaurant to fit right in.

The joint is located in a somewhat remote spot of North Portland, surrounded by industrial warehouses. But, its exterior can’t be missed with sleek red and white branding. All capital letters spell out “FACE PLANT” with the “A” in “face” replaced by two hands making a heart.

It’s a fast food restaurant. According to their website, it took the team three years to perfect their burger and 18 months to find the perfect location. Swan Island is the only location.

Inside, everything is 100% plant-based. The menu is simple: two kinds of cheeseburgers, nuggets, milkshakes, soda and fries. If you’re feeling extra hungry, you can make either of their signature burgers, the Red & Yellow or the Fancy, a double. They say coffee and cold brew are coming soon.

So what’d we order?

We tried the burgers, fries and a chocolate shake. What stood out to us the most is how similar to a “real” hamburger both burgers were. And that’s coming from some nonvegans. The fries were perfectly seasoned, and the milkshake was oh-so-thick with their pea milk base…
