Readers respond: Blame on Higgins is hogwash

In a recent letter to the editor, the writer put the blame for Higgins Restaurant’s problems on the owners, (“Readers respond: Higgins to blame for its troubles,” July 20). “They have priced themselves out of the Portland market,” the letter writer said. We say hogwash!

After a visit to Higgins recently, we can say that the menu is better than ever, the service is exceptional, as always, and the gazpacho ceviche was a culinary surprise – the kind of surprise for which Higgins is famous.

Yes, you can find main course meals at a slightly lower price, but at those places you’re herded to a table, given a glass of water and expected to wait 10 minutes before a server greets you. Or you are asked to order at a counter, then wait until someone yells out your name or number. Meals are rushed and then you’re out the door…
