VANCOUVER, Wash. (KATU) — Plans for a new bridge over Interstate 5 connecting Vancouver and Portland are still in progress, according to Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle. The project, which includes a new pair of Columbia River bridges west of the existing structure, is considering three configuration options: a single-level fixed-span, a double-deck fixed-span, and a single-level movable-span.
The project also aims to improve the I-5 mainline and seven interchanges north and south of the Columbia River. Options include configurations with or without C Street ramps, as well as various I-5 alignment options in downtown Vancouver. Enhancements to the local street network are also part of the plan.
Additionally, a proposal is being considered to extend the light rail from the Expo Center in Portland to Evergreen Boulevard in Vancouver, along with associated transit improvements.
