Flames leap 30 feet into the air after hedge catches fire in Vancouver, witnesses say

A hedge between two homes in Vancouver caught fire Friday, and the fire spread to a vehicle and one of the houses before the Vancouver Fire Department put it out, according to a news release from the department.

At about 2:30 p.m., the fire department received a report that a 10 foot section of arborvitae near 10910 N.E. 70th Circle was on fire. Witnesses reported that flames were 30 feet high, explosions were happening, and the fire had spread to a vehicle and house while firefighters were on their way.

Firefighters arrived to also find one wall of a neighbor’s house melting from the fire’s heat. They searched for victims and extinguished the fire while cooling the neighbor’s house to make sure the fire did not spread to it…
