First section of Vancouver’s Main Street reopens, giving business owners hope for relief

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Construction on Vancouver’s Main Street is reshaping the heart of downtown, but the project has brought both promise and pain for the businesses that line the corridor.

Work on the “Main Street Promise” began in January and is scheduled to continue through November 2026. The project will rebuild 10 blocks of Main Street between Fifth and 15th streets with new sidewalks, lighting, parking and underground utility work. According to the city, the goal is to create a safer, more accessible and more welcoming downtown.
