Man changed with attempted murder, kidnapping after traffic stop in Scappoose

A Portland man has been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after a traffic stop in which a passenger in his car told Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he was planning to kill her.

David Verne Botts, 59, was driving in Scappoose on July 23 when he was pulled over by CCSO deputies for an expired registration tag, according to a Sept. 4 press release from the sheriff’s office.

As deputies approached the vehicle, a female passenger asked the deputies for help and said Botts was planning to kill her. The passenger has a swollen face and a cut above her eye, which she said was caused by a ring on Botts’ finger when he hit her, according to court documents…
