The search for a missing hiker in the Columbia River Gorge reached a somber conclusion earlier this month, as confirmed by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. The hiker was found deceased hours after being reported missing. Despite the tragic outcome, aerial recognition of the efforts by the volunteer Search and Rescue Team (SAR), mainly comprised of dedicated young adults, is due.
Responding to these incidents is a core function for SAR teams, where they often work under tremendously challenging conditions. In a social media post by the Sheriff’s Office, profound gratitude was extended towards the volunteers whose contributions are significant in such austere situations. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office post highlighted, “Sadly, responders found the hiker dead hours after being reported missing, prompting the SAR team to initiate a recovery of the body.”
