Some parents turn Halloween into food drive as SNAP benefits face potential halt

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — This Halloween, parents in both Portland and Vancouver are opting to give out more than just candy, but food for kids in need. This comes as benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) could be halted over the weekend due to the government shutdown.

“No matter what happens today, because food insecurity is a pressing issue,” Portland-area mom Sarah Weber-Ogden tells KATU News.
