VANCOUVER, Wash. (KATU) — It’s time for the Vancouver Mall’s annual Trick-or-Treating event. But while kids will be heading to the mall to fill their bags with candy, this year’s event marks one year since a shooting that left one dead.
Travis Ward, 32, is facing numerous charges after police say he fatally shot one person and injured two others during the event. Now, Senior General Manager of the mall, Tracy Peters, tells KATU News, “the safety and security of our retailers, customers, and employees is very important to us.” She also noted they have “highly trained security staff in place” ahead of the event.
