Hazelwood Neighborhood Shooting Suspect Arrested by Portland Police, Faces Multiple Charges

On October 16, 2025, at about 8:18 p.m., Portland Police Bureau officers responded to a shooting in the 3500 block of Southeast 157th Avenue. Officers found an adult male in a parking lot with serious gunshot wounds. They provided first aid until emergency medical services arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

The Enhanced Community Safety Team began investigating the case. After several weeks, they identified Michael Anthony Howard, Jr., 43, of Portland, as the main suspect. On October 30, 2025, detectives, with help from other police units, executed a search warrant in the Hazelwood Neighborhood. Howard was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Howard faces several charges. These include Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public, and Discharging a Firearm in the City.
