Police in Portland, Ore., announced an investigation into a “sharp rise” in copper thefts has resulted in multiple arrests.
The Portland Police Bureau said increasing copper thefts across the city over the last six months has resulted in more than $2 million in losses and damages, disrupting communications services, including emergency response systems.
The investigation followed reports that both overhead and underground communication lines in the areas of Northeast 162nd Avenue and Northeast San Rafael Street, Northeast 102nd Avenue and Northeast Fremont Street, and Southeast 111th Avenue and Southeast Foster Road had been cut and removed in overnight thefts…
