Smoking 10-finger discount: Multnomah County Prosecutors say man stole $38,000 of tobacco

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Multnomah County Prosecutors say a serial thief repeatedly targeted Plaid Pantry stores for several months in 2025, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of tobacco products.

According to court documents, 54-year-old Timothy Ray Jones and his accomplices entered the stores 30 times between Mar. 14 and Nov. 3, stealing more than $38,000 in merchandise.

In many cases, Jones targeted the same stores repeatedly. The store at 6510 N. Greeley Ave. was allegedly hit 13 times, the store at 2010 North Killingsworth was allegedly hit seven times, and the store at 2983 SE Belmont was allegedly hit six times, according to investigators…
