Man killed twin brother at shuttered NE Portland motel known for shootings, jury finds

A night on the town ended with one twin brother dying in a motel lobby and the other concocting an alibi to responding officers, a jury concluded Monday.

On the third day of deliberation, a Multnomah County jury found Martre Oliver guilty of first-degree manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon in the Sept. 25, 2022 shooting death of his fraternal twin, 26-year-old Martese Oliver.

The shooting happened about 3:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a troubled motel on Northeast Sandy Boulevard near 82nd Avenue, which was operating as a Howard Johnson’s at the time. It was rebranded as a Quality Inn after the shooting — then closed for good following two more killings as officers opened a nuisance property investigation…
