Downtown Vancouver lost another longtime hangout. Georgieās Garage & Grill permanently closed on December 9th, a decision that left many regulars feeling confused and saddened.
For years, Georgieās was the kind of place that felt stitched into the neighborhood: a reliable stop for comfort food, drinks, live music, and community events that ranged from casual get-togethers to fundraisers.
A Rough Year, Even by Bar Standards
While the closure announcement came suddenly, the road leading up to it had a few potholes. Back in September, a fire started outside the building, causing damage and forcing Georgieās into a temporary shutdown while repairs were assessed. Though the fire didnāt end the business immediately, it likely added stress to an already tough year for small, independent bars navigating rising costs, unpredictable foot traffic, and post-pandemic whiplash.
Georgieās eventually reopened, giving the impression that things were back on trackā¦or at least idling forward.

What truly threw the community for a loop was the timing. As of December 8th, 2025 at 6:54 PM, Georgieās social media was still promoting an upcoming toy drive scheduled for December 13th, 2025, suggesting business as usual.
