PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A plane crash in North Carolina killed NASCAR racer Greg Biffle early Thursday morning, and in response, the City of Camas is mourning the loss of a hometown hero.
Biffle and members of his family were in a business jet when the plane crashed at Statesville Regional Airport before erupting into flames on the tarmac. Federal Aviation Administration paperwork indicates that Biffle had owned the Cessna Citation that crashed.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson (R–N.C.) confirmed that Biffle and his family were among the passengers who died in the crash.
Biffle was a longtime resident of Washington. Born in Vancouver and raised in Camas, he began his racing career in the Pacific Northwest.
