U.S. Coast Guard seeks public comment on new Interstate 5 bridge – but not from everyone

The U.S. Coast Guard is looking for public comment on the proposed replacement for the Interstate 5 bridge across the Columbia River between Portland and Vancouver, but not all comments are necessarily welcome.

The Coast Guard issued a public notice Friday that it will begin accepting comment on the long-awaited bridge project, though it specified that those comments should be exclusively related to marine navigation.

“Maritime transportation stakeholders,” including ships, facilities, businesses and organizations, are “highly encouraged to carefully review this notice and provide comments regarding the proposed bridge’s ability to meet the current and future needs of navigation,” the Coast Guard said…
