Driver killed in Beaverton crash after Portland police pursuit

PORTLAND, Ore, (KOIN) — A driver who attempted to elude police in Portland and Beaverton was killed after a crash early Saturday morning, police said.

Just before 2:20 a.m., Portland police officers attempted to stop a vehicle driving recklessly near Northwest 8th Avenue and Burnside Street.

At first, the driver pulled over. But before backup officers arrived to assist, the driver pulled away, traveling westbound on Burnside Street, police said.

Several minutes later, police said they caught up with the vehicle “driving normally” on Southwest Barnes Road and 87th Avenue in Beaverton.

When officers got behind the vehicle, the driver did a U-turn, eluding police a second time, authorities said.

However, officials said they found the suspect vehicle had crashed several blocks away at Southwest Barnes Road and Valeria View Drive…
