Suspected serial burglar caught after chase through Vancouver neighborhoods

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspected burglar connected to multiple Vancouver robberies over the course of five months was taken into custody on Wednesday, authorities said.

Vancouver police said the suspect, Craig Stewart, was spotted by officers near East Evergreen Boulevard and Harney Way the morning of Jan. 3.

When they attempted contact with him, police said Stewart ran, jumped over several fences then ran through backyards in nearby neighborhoods.

Officers and drone pilots tracked Stewart, eventually finding him hiding under shrubs in one of the backyards.

Stewart was taken into custody, where he is now facing a slew of charges, including second-degree burglary (5 counts), residential burglary (3 counts), first-degree theft (1 count), second-degree theft (1 count), third-degree theft (1 count), second-degree malicious mischief (2 counts), third-degree malicious mischief (2 counts), possession of a stolen vehicle (2 counts), obstructing or delaying a train (1 count), obstructing a law enforcement officer (1 count), resisting arrest (2 counts), as well as harassment (2 counts)…
