Crews extinguish fire on large ship at Port of Vancouver

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Crews extinguished a fire on a large ship at the Port of Vancouver on Tuesday night.

Just after 9 p.m., the Vancouver Fire Department said they were called to the port after a fire was reported in the cargo hold of a break-bulk carrier.

A crew member said the ship, a 656-foot-long vessel that carries dry bulk materials, had smoke and flames coming from a pile of shredded metal.

When fire crews arrived, the ship’s crew was already working to fight the fire using the ship’s onboard suppression system, and the two teams worked together to snuff out the flames…
