PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Lawyers are back in federal court debating the use of force and tear gas during protests outside the South Portland ICE Facility. This week, a federal judge is set to decide if and how federal law enforcement can use chemical agents going forward.This is the suit the ACLU of Oregon brought against the Trump administration and the Department of Homeland Security on behalf of protestors subject to tear gas outside the ICE Facility in recent months. Judge Michael Simon is hearing the case. He already issued a temporary restraining order barring agents from using these chemical munitions last month, and he extended that order. Now, lawyers suing the Trump administration are looking for an injunction from Judge Simon to keep preventing the use of tear gas.
