PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The superintendent of Portland Public Schools says the district is addressing a budget deficit with temporary furloughs for central office leadership and staff. Plus, there is a possibility of closing five to ten schools because of next year’s shortfall.
That deficit is projected at $50 million.
“I anticipate presenting the board with a list of schools for closure in November, for board action in December, and notification out to community by January of this upcoming year,” said Superintendent Dr. Kimberlee Armstrong. “So no school closures this coming academic year but we are anticipating that there will be some closures.”…
