‘He was reaching for my f—ing gun, dude’: Final report released in Clark County deputy’s fatal stabbing of DUI suspect

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Washington’s Office of Independent Investigations has released its final report of the 2025 incident in which a man was fatally stabbed by a Clark County deputy near Ridgefield.

A 54-year-old man, later identified as Oregon resident Marc Fogle, was a suspect in a DUI crash in Vancouver on May 7, 2025. He was taken to a weigh station on Interstate 5 for a breathalyzer test by Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryson Layton, 23, as KOIN 6 News previously reported.

DUI suspect life flighted after crash with Washington State Patrol

According to the report released Friday, Fogle repeatedly told Layton that his life was over and he was a “dead man” because of the arrest. Previously released body camera footage also shows Fogle telling Layton his life is over because he’s a commercial driver.
