OHSU removes hospital CEO after only 4 months

Oregon Health & Science University’s newly hired health system chief executive is out of his $1.4 million job just four months after starting, leaving a vacancy once again in one of OHSU’s most critical leadership roles.

Tarek Salaway will no longer serve as CEO of OHSU Health — the division that oversees the university’s hospitals and clinics — effective immediately, OHSU President Dr. Shereef Elnahal told staff in an email last Friday.

Elnahal offered no explanation for Salaway’s removal but acknowledged leadership changes can be disruptive and said that he’s “committed to minimizing any impact this may have throughout the health care mission.”…
