A case of whooping cough has Portland’s Grant High School on alert.
In a letter Monday to the school community, health officials from Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties warned that someone with the bacterial infection also known as pertussis had spent time at the Northeast Portland school.
The letter urged people to make sure everyone in their households was up to date on vaccinations, noting that the DTap or Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) vaccine most people get offers protection. Anyone with cold symptoms or a worsening cough of at least a week, the letter said, should stay home from work or school until they consult with a healthcare provider.
