Navy reservist accused of killing wife denied bond

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — David Varela, a Navy reservist accused of killing his wife, was denied bond during a court hearing on Thursday morning.

He is charged with first-degree murder and concealing a dead body in connection with the death of his wife, Lina Guerra.

Varela’s wife was reported missing on Feb. 5 after her family had not heard from her for more than two weeks. Police found her body the following day in a drawer freezer in their apartment in the Icon Building in Downtown Norfolk…
