Virginia Beach Police launch the LIAM Initiative

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — As the school year in Virginia Beach comes to a close this Friday, the Virginia Beach Police Department want to make sure your child is in good hands this Summer. And that’s where the LIAM Initiative comes in.

“It stands for Local Interventions and Assistance for Minors,” said Lt. Kevin Lokey. “We have a number of resources that are grouped into different categories. Everything from substance use to educational assistance, even volunteer resources and career development.”

The initiative is named after Liam Metz, an 11-year-old who passed away from cancer in 2024. The Virginia Beach Police Department arranged a great final Christmas for Liam. The resources brought together that day were the impetus for the LIAM initiative…
