Portsmouth economic development team announces possible developers for Crawford Bay redevelopment project

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) —  Warm summer evenings can bring about lots of foot traffic and profits for waterfront properties and businesses.

That’s exactly what the city of Portsmouth wants to provide in the future with its Crawford Bay redevelopment project. The large piece of prime property totaling around six acres has sat vacant for years, and city leaders announced that three prospective developers are in the running to change that.

Residents’ input to shape future of Portsmouth waterfront

On Thursday evening, a packed house at The Mustard Seed Placein Olde Towne, just a short drive away from the Crawford Bay site, heard from the city’s economic development team on the progress of redevelopment on the waterfront.

“We’re looking to re-envision what our underperforming, underutilized municipally-owned properties along the Elizabeth River are for new mixed use development opportunities,” said Portsmouth Economic Development Director Brian Donahue.
