VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The local Venezuelan community is reacting and taking action after devasting back-to-back earthquakes caused widespread destruction in the country.

Rescue and recovery efforts are underway in Venezuela after a rare “doublet” hit the country earlier this week.
“We do not have the technology or the preparation to do something in these cases, you know,” said Reinaldo Portillo, who lives in Venezuela. “Our country was really doing bad socially and economically speaking. Now, with this natural disaster, you can see that it’s doing worse.”
